It is official! The special ingredient found in Elkris Super-Oat Swallow known as “Beta-Glucan” has
been shown to help to regulate your blood pressure, according to the AAFC publication - "Oat and Barley B Glucans." A study in the June 2007 "European Journal of Clinical Nutrition" reports that (the above ingredient present in our Elkris SuperOat Swallow) is especially effective at lowering blood pressure in those that are already obese and already have high blood pressure.
In genetically modelled Rats with spontaneous hupertension (SHR), a diet containing 5% shiitake (lentinus edodes) or maitake (Grifola frondosa) caused a decrease in the mean systemic blood pressure - Vasc Health Risk Manag. Dec 2008; 4(6): 1265–1272. (Kabir et al 1987,1988; Kabir and Kimura 1989)
Dietary Fiber May Lower Blood Pressure
A 2005 Report of Journal of Hypertension - Whelton, S. Journal of Hypertension, March 2005; vol 23: pp 475-481.
"We performed a comprehensive analysis of data from 25 clinical trials and all the dta pointed to one strong conclusion - adding fiber to a person's diet has a healthy effect on their blood pressure," says researcher Seamus Whelton, a medical student at the Tulane University School of Medicine, in a news release. "Analyzing a large number of studies lent strength to the conclusions of clinical trials that involved too few participants to show an effect of dietary fibre on blood pressure."
In the study, which appears in the March issue of the Journal of Hypertension, researchers evaluated the results of 25 studies on the effects on blood pressure of adding fibre to the diet. Fibre intake in the studies ranged from 3.8 grams per day to 125 grams per day.
Overall, the results showed that adding fibre to the diet was associated with a significant reduction in both systolic (the top number in a blood pressure reading) and the diastolic (the bottom number) blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.
In studies lasting at least eight weeks, the average reduction in blood pressure was 3.12 mmHg systolic and 2.57 mmHg diastolic.
A small drop in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings was also seen in people without high blood pressure.
